Water in Art as Symbol of Eternal Life
We all learned from the school that water plays the most important part in our World. We all know that lands of our Earth are surrounded by water basins as lakes, rivers, seas and oceans. The body of a human consists of 80 per cent of water as well. All those aspects give us a big attention to the water in all our spheres of life.
All the nations of our world have their own unique perception of water and its meaning. Water is able to unite all the nations and to conduce to the development of cultures. For instance, water in Japan is the symbol of purifying and reconciliation, in India – the symbol of spiritual reinvention.
In many religions of the world, water is on the special place. It has a sacred meaning. It is used during the rituals as washing, dousing etc. For example, in Christianity, water symbolizes salvation and purification, it is used during Baptism. In Islam, water is of great importance for ritual prayers, and in Buddhism it symbolizes the flow of life, its eternity, which has no beginning and no end.
Water since many centuries played the main part in art as well. Water has always been the symbol of new start, new life, purity and rejuvenation. If to look back to the Renaissance masterpieces we can see the water figuring in many paintings. It was used by the great artists of the past to emphasize the virginity, life, fertility, flow of living, change and fresh start.
If we observe the paintings with water – we feel the tranquility which helps us to achieve the highest feeling of clarity of mind and soul. The paintings with water in the interior will calm down and balance our thoughts and actions in order to run away from flatness and rigidity. To become more flexible to the life circumstances we fulfill our living with pure intentions for the sake of our happy life.
